Musically, this compilation is a gem. Sonically, it’s a catastrophe. Not only was this release yet another victim of the infamous “Loudness War”. Even worse, several tracks badly suffer from “filteritis”, too. Someone probably wanted to remove the tape hiss (or was it mastered from vinyl copies?), but at the same time they have also removed actual musical substance. A typical example is the track “Kathy”: especially the middle part synthesizer solo is unlistenable due to excessive filter treatment, showing well known side effects of vinyl noise and crackle removal software. Having now heard an unprocessed digitized recording from the original Peruvian LP, the difference is striking! What a shame.

I got ahold of this release halfway through 2011 and would groove out to it while cooking at work all the time. It really is one of the coolest Latin Rock/Funk albums I've ever heard. My particular favorites are Too Late, When You're Walking, All Your Love, and Pussy Cat. For some reason, this particular release had incorrect track listings for all but the first 3 tracks. My following listing has the above listings followed by the corrected listing next to it.
