The Mix is a remix album released by Kraftwerk in 1991. At the time the band was switching their private recording studio Kling Klang from analog to digital recording technology and they decided to re-record and re-arrange older songs to release them as a compilation. No new material was recorded for the album. Its unfair to call The Mix a greatest hits album, since some of their most famous songs such as The Model and Tour de France were not included. More so, it was Kraftwerks non-traditional way of releasing a compilation while simultaneously reimagining their older material. Kraftwerk - 1991 - The Mix. 1991 - The Mix. Download MP3. MP3 320Kbps. This 1991 Kraftwerk collection of often drastically remixed greatest hits offers a good, if slightly skewed, overview of the Dusseldorf legends' career. Inspired by the band's continuing influence on modern pop, dance, and techno, founders Florian Schneider and Ralf Hutter tweak Kraftwerk's sonic foundations with the intention of making their music more club-friendly. While some of the faithful have lamented the tinkering, The Mix presents a distinct, typically idiosyncratic take on modern club music. CD7: The Mix 2009. To favorites 1 Download album. Listen album. Kraftwerk: German band formed in Düsseldorf in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider. Widely considered as innovators and pioneers of electronic music, they were among the first successful acts to popularize the genre. The group began as part of West Germany's experimental krautrock scene in the early 1970s before fully embracing electronic instrumentation, including synthesizers, drum machines, and vocoders. Chief Kraftwerk members Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider used two drummers during the recording of the album Andreas Hohmann and Klaus Dinger. Their playing provides the music with a rock edge. Formed by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider in Düsseldorf in 1970, Kraftwerk were part of the krautrock scene. However, the group mostly found fame as pioneers of electronic music, showcasing their styles on a series of concept albums. At this point, electronic music was seen as something far too arty and obscure to ever trouble the average person's listening. This all changed with Autobahn. Released in 1974, Autobahn represented a seismic shift for music. It became a worldwide the wake of this, Kraftwerk became a far more conceptual band. Not only were they playing machines, they claimed -the machines were also playing them. This was highlighted by a press conference called by the band to promote their 1978 album, The Man-Machine - in one of popular music's most famous pranks, robots, designed to look like the members of the band, appeared in the place of the real members. Comments to album Kraftwerk - The Mix
Just_paw
this is a remix album however the remixes are in typical german KRAFTWERK manner RADIOACTIVITY and AUTOBAHN have changed radically. Radioactive in a good way but autobahn is the attempt to sound modern and cool but they fail totally. this was my first KRAFTWERK CD as a pupil i bought it in 1997 and it introduced me to their stuff
Briciraz
While the previous work is unique and timeless, The Mix sounds more like typical early 90s club music. But it is still a very entertaining listening and better than a simple best-of compilation. As you can expect, production and sound quality are on the highest levels.
Narim
All tracks are performed in German vocals on this edition.

I have 2 copies. Both skip at the end of "Die Roboter"... Does anyone else have such problems ? Thanks for letting me know...
Auridora
Yep, sure do. Big skips were had on the turntable today.
Tto
This is the only good album Craftwork did. Prove me wrong. Protip; you can't.
Iarim
Dear oh dear. Why on Earth would anyone want to prove you wrong? What a bizarre request.Besides, it is not possible to prove a personal opinion/perception "wrong".Still, each to their own.
Skiletus
really ?Their name is KRAFTWERK not CRAFTWORK TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS, MAN MACHINE, COMPUTERWORLD and even AUTOBAHN and ELECTRIC CAFE were great albums
Anasius
the simplest way for me to put it is this way. They spent seven years from autobahn through computer world being able to see hear and shape musical evolution. and all the other accolades that go with that stature. as for electric cafe well debate its merits if you want but no is the final answer if its in the league of its predecessors. but i will take it any day over "the mix". beside the usual criticisms such as sacrilege and what was the point? ralf said to update klingklang to digital etc...but even forgiving the fact that it has no energy as a dance album and that its updating already influential tracks...sorry you missed again but way worse than electric cafe. and as they are revered to this very day for their influence then let it be just that. ralf seems to believe that the barely tweaked updates he takes on tour of what is still essentially the mix album performed live has enuf validity to keep the people who respect that influence just paying for a ticket to see the legends themselves . but only getting stale bread being reheated for us to break at the alter of ..." the mix"....martin rushent should get that credit instead for his work on love and dancing by the human league a.k.a league unlimited orchestra.

A great release from columbia as single lp version with round corners. The sound is clear and good, the half of tracks are faded out. But the release is very rare and hard to find. Get it when you can get it.
Swordsong
Kraftwerks classic releases are timeless classics. This attempt to modernize these songs sounds absolutely dated these days. Cheesy house pianos? But there is still enough cool stuff on it to justify having it. I totally love the vocoder Barbershop part in Autobahn for example.

While the results here are indeed mixed, it is a fine review of the group's past work given the new meaning with a long-lasting touch of Kraftwerk's geek-ish naivety. However, from here to eternity, the group never really recovered from their prime as they continue to fracture and self-exploit (by the time of this album's release both members from their key-period, Bartos and Flür were gone, the appearance of a certain Fritz Hilpert as a double robot only added to the confusion (a short-term member Fernando Abrantes also left shortly after appearing in the newly updated video of "The Robots" plus some early PR photos). And it would have been better if "The Mix" really was Kraftwerk's last ever album - it does sound more like a farewell than a fresh new start as the 90s kicked in. In the then-era of Rave explosion and future shocks, Kraftwerk were intelligent enough to stay aside, taking deserved credit but only discreetly flirting with the fashions of the day (as evident in "Computer Love" and "Pocket Calculator"/"Dentaku"). The elements remain intact although they are at times a bit too trivial - "Home Computer" may be the ideal example; some of its parts reveal the killer tune it might have become if only the keyboard parts weren't played as cheap, while "Music Non Stop" and the "TEE" trio of tracks provide only the very basic update doodle that don't necessarily update the originals. Still, where it might have fallen into the trap of being pure formality of recycling, "The Mix" is delivered in typical Kraftwerkian fashion, a concept album that (re)worked.
Fani
absolutely right RALF and FLORIAN were intelligent enough to take a break and they did not make the attempt to compete with younger generations of electronic musicians at that time other veteran electronic musicians did attempt but failed and were ridiculed LISTEN please to FLÜR and BARTOS they still make music but the result is ridiculous

I have a promo stamped version (label and backcover) in my collection.

Hm, perhaps not among Kraftwerk's signature work, but 'The Mix' is still worth checking out, I believe.I do agree with other reviewers that some tracks have been butchered, but other ones are quite good. My favorites from this one are "Computer Love," "Pocket Calculator," and "Radioactivity."

One of the greatest album from the greatest band of all time. Notes: Pity, some work has been done in a bloody way. Some original tracks, material were sampled and played back during the entire lenght instead of recreated as the most of the sounds were. Typical example the great Robot's bassline. Much worse in soundquality than the original and the samples were treated not quite satisfactory well. This is the same with the most of the old-sampled material. Then: The soundquality of the CD is very good but far not as good as the Electric Café. The most clear, transparent, dinamics pressing is the US pressing here. The Musique Non-Stop is bloody bad in soundquality, worse than a cassette recording. I don't know how the hell could such happen?? Interesting collector's hint: On some KW releases there are some slight differences in music between the English and the German versions. Here I can't quite recall but I think the Computer Love has a bit more audible synth-line.

Rusty German robots are cashing in on screwing up their classics with acid house crap.

Either you get off on being a troll or you are seriously deluded.Acid House? Not a single track on The Mix could even remotely be called Acid House. But now you've got two responses, and I guess that's what you wanted.

Rusty? No. Of course, this was not Kraftwerk at their creative peak, but to suggest they were running out of ideas is too much. Well known tracks have been reworked into a DJ friendly package that still retains more than enough of the original Kraftwerk magic. To describe these tracks as 'acid house' is ignorant. Stylistically, these tracks reference early 90s Germanic techno and trance, but more than anything, they are Kraftwerk tracks, and unique in that sense of being recognisable as the sound of a particular group or artist rather than being representative of a genre. This release is not for every Kraftwerk fan but it will appeal to many.

SO pleased that this was released on vinyl. For me, this is THE definitive Kraftwerk album--and I am well aware that there is no shortage of people who would disagree with me on that. Also, this was my first exposure to Kraftwerk in high school; I played this CD to hell and back. So take that with a grain of salt. Regardless, this vinyl was such a long time coming. The emphasis is on DJ friendliness, with a dab of Detroit influence on the engineering style. The tracks include 909/808-ified mixes of The Robots, Radio-Activity, and other late 70's/early-mid 80's Kraftwerk tracks that were crowning achievements electronic music--but didn't necessarily go out of their way to be urban dance scene oriented. Not that that's a good or a bad thing, it is what it is. Be that as it may, this is a fantastic release and I'm thrilled that it has come out on wax.

The Mix is not a compilation or a remix album, it's a batch of old tunes reworked from scratch. While some tracks like Heimcomputer and Trans-Europa Express merely update the old analogue sound without really changing the music, others use the old bits and pieces to make something completely new. Radioactivität adds a stomping beat and a political message to the old classic and in Die Roboter (The Robots) timing of the famous melody is altered to give the song a whole new twist. Altogether, a great set of music, but naturally not a replacement for the original versions.

Vinyl always sounds better. I have the original German and English LP and can recommend both
Jonide
Have anyone compared the vinyl versus the CD? Does the vinyl sound better? Am thinking of getting the original German pressed

Kraftwerk are legends no doubt about that and they have created numerous fantastic albums. But if I had to go for one album, then it would be this compilation, probably due to that fact that I'm a House head by nature and this round up of all Kraftwerk's finest tunes all beefed up to make them even more hypnotic, just rocks my spot pefectly. A great introduction to these electronic pioneers.

Kraftwerk's popular material rests here, compiled, remixed, refreshed, adjusted, and put forth into a set of tracks that can be enjoyed from the start of The Robots to the finish of Music Non Stop. During college, I used to have this one on repeat play all night during term papers. Kudos to such gifted work on this album. Music . . . Non Stop!!!
